The clients in their brief spoke of a desire to recall their own times, growing up by the beach with a desire for their own children to enjoy that similar experience. We wanted to create a home that was sophisticated, yet it needed to be robust in order to manage the knocks. We considered how the process of habitation could be simplified. Such concepts included no provision of a carport or garage, a generous walk from the carpark through the garden to reach the dwelling, the dwelling's interior incorporates consciously dark areas drawing the eye towards the landscape, we created an internal bike path for the kids, hence the wider walk ways, the circuit takes in the master bedroom. The internal pathway incorporates a laundry, rather than devoting a separate space for that function. The kitchen island bench was created void of cupboards to evoke a real notion of temporary or weekend living. These examples are typical of the approach towards creating the beach house.
